HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION Mission Statement By utilizing the expertise of the Sioux City Historic Preservation Commission members, researching current information and partnering with other groups and local, state and and national organizations, the Commission will:
2007 Work Plan Institute a Comprehensive Educational Campaign on Preservation Issues for the Residents of Sioux City. 1)Present 3rd Annual Historic Preservation Week 2) Partner with Sioux City Schools and Museum 3) Continue Improvements with the Website 4) Host 3 Historic Preservation Workshops per Year 5) Terra Cotta Workshop (Fritz Miller, Dubuque) 6) Appropriate House Painting (HP Week) 7) Doug Jones (State Archaeologist) 8) Consider Local Landmark / Register and Tourism Pursue Proactive Approach. 1) Monitor Red Tag List for Potentially Significant Structures 2) Endangered Properties List 3) Monitor Planning and Zoning Commission Agenda for Pertinent Issues 4) Assist Property Owners with Effective Boarding and Moth Balling Techniques Further Develop Context Studies throughout Sioux City. 1) Continue Morningside Survey 2) Apply for CLG Grant to Fund Downtown Survey 3) Terra Cotta Book (To Be Completed for HP Week) 4) One National Register Nomination per Year Offer Assistance in Design Impact in Areas of Historic Significance, such as: 1) Period Lighting 2) Parking 3) Landscaping 4) Signs 5) Design / Site Plans |
