Sioux City Awarded Certified Local Government Grant!

The Sioux City Historic Preservation Commission was awarded a CLG Grant to...

The Historic Preservation Commission, in conjunction with the Sioux City Planning Division, has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the State Historic Preservation Office to complete a comprehensive survey of Downtown structures. A comprehensive survey is needed at this time to catalog and document these buildings and identify those structures that may be eligible for National Register nomination as an individual building or as part of a historic district application. The proposed boundary includes 584 properties enveloped in 82 blocks of which 25 are either on or are eligible to be on the National Register of Historic Places. Furthermore, we expect around 1/3 of the properties within the proposed boundary area to contain historical significance.

Robert Vogel of CRM Consultants has been chosen to complete the survey.  Currently the survey is underway with the historic context of Downtown nearing completion.  We anticipate completing the entire survey by June 2009.
