Siouxland and the Second EmpireArticle by Jim Jung, Siouxland Community Magazine Sioux City has never been shy about the use of architecture to define itself. Residents took a forward approach to the Victorian era when they chose to borrow a style from a French Emperor. It was known as the Second Empire, and it allowed residents to keep pace with much larger cities of the Midwest and northeast, where the style was very popular.
